Book Announcement!

Book 1:  One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

This delightful little book, only 212 pages in eleven chapters, walks us through moments in the author's life where she learned to see blessings. She shares a way of looking at life, and living life, with grace and gratitude. I have personally started this book twice and am excited to read it in it's entirety. It is available at most Christian book stores, Barns and Nobel and online through Amazon, as well as ebay.

I will start reading chapter one on September 4th, posting reminders and such so the conversation can begin immediately! Tentatively. we will start a new chapter every Tuesday after that, completing the book by November 20th. The pace can speed up or slow down as needed, so just keep communicating where you are at and what you need. The more we all communicate, the more we can all get out it!

  1. I have two LONG drives this weekend for a holiday trip to my parent's house, so I'm sure I can finish chapter 1 and be ready for discussing by September 4th. I'm excited! Thanks for putting this together. I'm going to have to break my "fast from Facebook" today so I can post something about this to all of my friends! :)

  2. I read the first chapter last night (I had read Sarah's statement to be ready to discuss by Sept 4th, but I see I was supposed to start reading by Sept 4th - oops). I enjoyed the narrative and how open and honest the author is about thought that are not perfect. So many times we don't know what to do with "weak thoughts" because we see all our mentors and authors as never having those kind of thoughts. But I did have one problem with the scripture they used. Anyone that knows me (which is pretty much no one on here) knows that I am a stickler for proper interpretation and I have a problem with people using scripture to suit their need rather than the true meaning of that scripture WHEN it was written. She quotes 1Corinthians 2:7 from the NEB version. If you look that passage up in a reliable translation such as NASB, and you read vs 6 and 8 along with it, there is no way it should have been translated like that. The entire passage is about bringing Glory to God's Wisdom. No way it is about us. They interpret that as "to bring US to OUR full glory" putting the emphasis on US rather than God's Wisdom. The thoughts that the author takes from that scripture may be true in that this may very well be what God wants for us, but I just was bothered that it came from a mis-translated verse.
I hope I didn't offend anyone or sound abrasive, just trying to give an honest opinion.
